one song becomes a 40-minute discussion. one question becomes a conspiracy theory. one snack run becomes the story of the year.
A smoke sesh rarely goes according to plan.
Someone puts on a song. Someone else has a fun fact. Three tangents later, you're debating whether fish know they're wet, the aux has changed hands four times, and nobody remembers what started the conversation.
Welcome to the plot. You won't be here long.
01 — the song that started everything
Someone plays a track on the speaker.
“Wait, listen to the production on this.”
Suddenly, you're discussing the artist's entire discography, the best album of 2009, and whether music discovery was objectively better without algorithms and TikTok.
Nobody's allowed to skip the song until the conversation ends. Which means the song is now playing for the fourth time.
02 — the question nobody needed to ask
“Do you think pigeons have best friends?”
Nobody knows. Nobody has ever wondered this before. But now it's the only thing that matters.
Are they choosing each other? Do they recognize faces? Is there a pigeon somewhere with a lifelong enemy?
Twenty minutes pass. No answers. Several strong opinions.
03 — the snack side quest
Someone says they're hungry.
That's it. That's the entire mission briefing.
Suddenly, you're checking Postmates, reviewing the contents of three kitchen cabinets, or sending someone on a bodega run with six very specific requests.
The snacks arrive. Everyone agrees it's the best food they've ever tasted.
The night has peaked.
04 — the accidental conspiracy
It starts with something harmless.
A weird coincidence. A random fact. A video someone saw once.
Then someone says, “Okay, but hear me out.”
Mistake.
Now you're connecting dots that were never meant to be connected. Nobody has evidence, but everyone has a theory. Someone is drawing an imaginary diagram in the air.
The conversation finally ends when somebody asks what time it is.
05 — the collective silence
At some point, the entire room goes quiet.
The music is still playing. Someone is staring at the ceiling. Someone else is looking at a lamp like it's just been invented.
Nobody feels the need to fill the silence. And that feels nice.
Then, from across the room:
“Wait. What were we talking about?”
And we're back.
field notes
A successful smoke sesh isn't measured by how much you did or whether anything made sense.
Sometimes it's just a good playlist, a ridiculous conversation, your favorite people, and a night that takes a few unexpected turns.
No agenda. No itinerary. Absolutely no way to explain the story tomorrow.
If you had to be there, you just had to be there.
see you otherwse. ✦
